Current GOES IR #satellite view of Hurricane Laura depicts cold cloud tops (red & blacks) increasing & wrapping around center. This system has ~400-450 miles to go over warm waters in the #GulfofMexico. Latest National Hurricane Center forecast calls for a Category 3 storm at landfall. Could Laura make a run for a Category 4? It’s possible.

Some rather interesting features to note in this animation is the the expanding outflow of high level cirrus clouds along the extreme northern half of Hurricane Laura’s presence, which looks like they are already appearing in the sky along the Florida Panhandle, and southern shores of Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. You can also see the remnants of Marco sucking in some of the extreme outflow from Laura.
